Welcome to Interchange!
Interchange is an arts education collaborative program of COCA. Through Interchange, regular classroom teachers and teaching artists collaborate to engage students and improve learning in and through the arts. Interchange also works with classroom teachers to help them develop their confidence and ability to integrate the arts into their class lessons to strengthen student engagement and learning around core subjects.
- Partners and Schools: Interchange offers collaborative residencies to teachers in St. Louis Public Schools and the Normandy School District. Coordinated by COCA, Interchange residencies involve teaching artists from myriad local arts and cultural organizations that are part of the Interchange Arts and Cultural Partners.
- Professional Development: Using the arts in regular classrooms involves classroom teacher understanding of arts media and their application to subjects like reading and math, and teaching artist understanding of pedagogy and curricula. To enable more effective collaborations, Interchange offers a variety of professional development workshops and an annual Summer Institute for teachers, artists and members of arts organizations.
- Evaluation: Interchange recognizes that what gets measured gets done. To ensure its arts integration collaborative residencies are meeting academic, artistic and professional development goals, Interchange is working with Dr. Rob Horowitz of Teachers College at Columbia University on a five-year formative and summative evaluation of Interchange programming.
